Matt Rutherford
Career and Leadership Coach
I know these moves from the inside: I have made them, led people through them, and been on the receiving end of them. I coach the way I would want to be coached: direct, practical, and on your side.
Where I have been
I spent thirty years in senior roles at Meta, LinkedIn and Microsoft. Most recently, as Global Head of Change Management at Meta, I led a team of senior programme managers delivering hundreds of change projects a year around the world.
I have also been laid off twice in the last six years, so I know that side of a reorganisation too.
Why coaching
The part of that work I valued most was always the one to one conversations. A manager working out how to lead the team they used to be part of. A leader with a decision nobody else could make for them. Someone whose role had just disappeared. Good support at those moments changes what happens next, and coaching lets me give it properly.
How I work
A map first, then a plan
In the first session we map your situation. Every session after that works a part of the map, so you leave with a written plan rather than a set of notes.
-
Where you are
Your role, your strengths, and what is and is not working right now.
-
Where you are going
The move you want to make, described specifically enough to plan for.
-
What is in the way
The gaps, habits and circumstances that slow you down.
-
Who matters
The people whose support, decisions or opinion will shape the move.
Who I work with
People making progress in their careers, from experienced professionals to executives, in any sector, usually at one of five moments:
- Looking for the next role
- Managing people for the first time
- Starting a new role or a promotion
- Leading through change
- Just been laid off
Training and standards
I hold a Diploma in Executive and Business Coaching (2024) and I am a registered member of the Association for Coaching. My coaching follows the Association for Coaching code of ethics.
